Lightning Photo Gallery Although lightning is a common phenomena in the Netherlands it is not easy to capture. It all starts with being at the right time at the right place. I preferably take my shots from my car which is a very safe spot. Hail, pouring rain, and high winds will make things even more difficult. Then you must be lucky to end up with any lightning in your picture at all. This gallery only presents lightning pictures that nature composed well. Lightning 31 augustus 2008 Although only isolated thunderstorms were predicted I know 2008 is a thunderous summer. Unfortunately just a single shot came out right. Thunderstorm of 22-23 August 2008 This summer is really exceptional. Again, and totaly unexpected on 22 August 2008 I noticed some lightning . After checking some weather websites I decided to go for it. Only a mile from home I saw a supercel size thundercloud hanging over my home town. So I took this shot of the cloud with a local church in foreground. Although the thundercloud was lit by only lightning inside a Dutch national weater news used it in their tv show. (in Dutch) RTL News Weather of 24 August 2008. Thunderstorm of 27-28 July 2008 What a thunderous summer of 2008. The night of 27 of July 2008 I was as lucky as a lightning photographer can be. For this shoot I went to the Spuidijk in Spijkenisse, near the ferry Hekelingen – Nieuw Beijerland. The sharp cloud front, the absence of rain en wind, and a an incredible amount of CG lightning strikes resulted in a lot of keepers. Some of these you find below. Onweer 2-3 juni 2008 Finally, on June 2 2008 a storm worth photographing appeared. But the result was disappointing ; only 1 keeper of a discharge over the Caland Canal (Rotterdam harbour) near Rozenburg, Netherlands.
